Mengxi Kou first studied landscape architecture at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. She then continued her studies with a dual master’s degree in landscape architecture at Tongji University and advanced urbanism at Bauhaus University Weimar. After finishing in 2019, she worked as a planner and a research assistant for over three years at the National Park and Protected Area Planning Research Center at Tongji University, where she gained plenty of professional experience in national park planning and management and realized that the human—wildlife conflict is one of the most serious problems that protected areas have. In 2022, she received a doctoral scholarship from China Scholarship Council and started as a student of the doctoral program Environment and Society at the RCC.

In her doctoral research, she focuses on the spatial interactions between humans and wildlife, and devotes herself to exploring a method to mitigate the conflicts by combining environmental policies and protected area management.
