The Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow has invited Environment and Society doctoral candidate Sasha Gora (American cultural history) as a guest lecturer to lead a series of events around sugar and society for the first anniversary of their programme Cooking Pot.
The programme consists of a film screening followed by a discussion of the connections between sugar and slavery, a talk about the cultural and colonial history of maple syrup, and a workshop about vínarterta, an Icelandic cake that is now more popular among North Americans with Icelandic heritage than it its home country.
