Nils Hanwahr studied Comparative Literature and Philosophy at the Freie Universität Berlin. Before earning his BA in 2009, he spent a year abroad at the University of California Berkeley. He then went on to earn a Master of Studies in English and American Studies at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, in 2010. At Imperial College London, he also completed a Master of Science in Science Communication in 2011. He worked at the Science Policy Centre at the Royal Society, London, and as an aide to the president of the Union of the German Academies of Sciences in Berlin. In September 2015, Nils was a fellow at the Berkeley Institute of Data Science (BIDS).
