Lawrence Ibeh studied both human and economic geography and gained a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in 1999. In 2003, he received his Masters Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. In 2007, he gained a Masters Degree in Environmental Management, from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) in Nigeria. His Master’s thesis in Environmental Management focused on the influence of urban poverty on environmental conditions in residential areas of a developing town in Nigeria. Here, he established a link between the conventional definition of poverty in terms of the income of residents and environmental conditions. He also used GIS to map urban poverty and environmental quality. From 2001 to 2009, he was a lecturer at the Department of Soil and Environmental Management at Ebonyi State University in Nigeria. In April 2011, Ibeh began his doctorate with the Rachel Carson Center’s doctoral program “Environment and Society.”
