Annka Liepold studied American cultural history, Spanish, and contemporary history at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. She received her MA in January 2013, the title of her thesis was "The American Crop: An AgriCultural History of Corn in the USA."

She worked for Goethe-Institut Chicago and for the Verein für Nachhaltigkeit e.V. in Munich before becoming a PhD student and Research Associate at the Rachel Carson Center in 2014. In 2015 she spent 9 months at the University of Kansas as a Visiting Scholar, pursuing research for her dissertation. Currently, Annka Liepold is also the Events Coordinator of the Rachel Carson Center.
