Simon Märkl studied American cultural history, sociology, and political science at LMU Munich and Trinity College Dublin. He received his degree of Magister Artium from LMU in February 2013 with a thesis about the cultural history of nuclear energy in the United States.

From Februray 2012 to December 2015, Märkl worked at acatech—German Academy of Science and Engineering. In October 2013, he joined the RCC’s doctoral program and started his dissertation exploring the nexus of science, technology, culture, and society. Since 2016, he has been supported by a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES).
