Julia Blanc studied Catholic theology at University of Augsburg and at LMU Munich. In 2005/2006, she spent a year at the Institut Catholique de Paris. In 2008, she completed her predoctoral studies and received a grant to spend several months in Florence in order to enhance her Italian skills. While working on her doctoral thesis, she worked as a teacher at both middle- and high-school level, and as a research associate at the Rachel Carson Center in Munich before becoming a member of the Doctoral Program Environment & Society. Julia submitted and defended her doctoral thesis on “Ecocatholicism” in 2015.

Since spring 2018, she has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Basel within the SNSF-funded project Urban Green Religions. Her current research project is entitled Urban Green Religions? Religion in Low Carbon Transitions in Two Western European Cities.
